Wireless Chargers - What is Wireless Charging?

Can you imagine the convenience of a wireless chargers for things like your cell phone, your iPod, and digital cameras?

You would never have to plug in your wireless charger to an electrical socket, because this new wireless charger has a charging system that uses electromagnetic induction to accomplish wireless charging of your devices.

It is basically a concept of creating a magnetic field that runs parallel to the surface of the pad, rather than out the end of the pad. In doing this, it enables delivery of a very uniform output of magnetic force across the pad, and makes it possible to make a receiver coil that is thin in the wireless chargers.

In addition to the coil, the wireless chargers have a regulator that adjusts the amount of power supplied to the ipod or cell phone, so that the batteries do not become over-charged. When fitting the regulator into each device being charged, a wireless charger can charge different devices, with various power requirements, all at the same time.

Not only are there plans for selling wireless chargers for home use, the manufacturer is also discussing sales with many different industries including:

  • automobile makers
  • hotel chains
  • bookstores
  • desk manufacturers
  • airlines

The manufacturer plans to first start selling the wireless chargers, as well as different adapters, in the UK and Europe by mid-2006. After the European launch, the company plans to turn its attention to other markets in the United States and Japan, and expect the cost of the larger wireless chargers to run in the price range of $150 - $200, and the smaller wireless chargers to cost between $30 - $40. The adapters to the wireless chargers are expected to cost between $15 - $20 per device adapter.

Cell phones, ipods, and other mobile devices are not only convenient, but they are a part of everyday living for many people.

Wireless chargers will soon be available to charge your mobile devices without having to plug them in. These wireless chargers do not run on electricity, but on magnetic forces.

UPDATE! A company called Powercast has raised over $10 million in venture capital money and has contracts signed with over 100 companies to produce a wireless charger! Powercast plans to have a wireless charger for at least cellphones, mp3 players, laptops, smart phones, car parts, hearing aids, car remote keyless entry systems, watch batteries, temp sensors and medical implats (especially pacemakers in the heart).

Power cast expects their wirless contactless chargers to begin supplying energy by the end of 2008. So we may have to wait a while longer, but closer is better! Also having multiple companies in the market makes each company more anxious to start selling quicker, which is good for consumers.
